Urban: Past and Future- The Zaryadye Park
In recent years, the city of Moscow has experienced impressive transformation in urban planning as part of the initiatives taken to promote a sustainable future and development and national socio-economic strategies, based on the United Nations SDGs (OECD; Maltcev, 2019). The city government, which since 2010, sponsors the leading international urban forum by UN-Habitat -The Moscow Urban Forum, committed itself to invest in urban development and progresses including; upgrading public spaces, renovation of the Garden Ring, construction of public transportation and public bike system, to name a few (Iibid).
The Zaryadye Park is recognised as one of the most significant landscape architectural developments in the Zaryadye district, located at Moscow's historical city centre, along the Moscow River. Historically, the old district, was demolished during the 1930s to create a skyscraper (see appendix A, for historical images). Yet, in 1967, a gigantic hotel was built, leaving the strategy abandoned until a new plan to renovate the old district was introduced, leading to the hotel demolishment in 2007 in favour of green park structure (Litvinova, 2015) (See also Appendix B for hotel image).
